I completed my internship at Clinica Santa Isabel, a private hospital in Seville, Spain. My internship position was a shadowing intern, meaning I spent time in various parts of the hospital speaking with medical staff and observing treatments and procedures. My roles and responsibilities as an intern were very loosely defined by our internship coordinator, and as a result I had a large amount of freedom when it came to which departments of the hospital I spent time in and what I spent my time doing. I had the privilege of spending time watching surgeries and practicing blood extractions (under close supervision) in the laboratory. While in the hospital I was able to have meaningful conversations with the medical staff and I learned about their individual perspectives on Spain's healthcare system and their field of work as well. Below is an in-depth overview in Spanish of my experience at Clinica Santa Isabel, along with context and relevant themes I encountered during my internship experience.
